Visit to the Côa Museum


Located in the Alto Douro region, an area of schist land also known as “Hot Earth”, Vila Nova de Foz Côa is a city, the county seat, which saw its name borders run by the discovery and classification of World Heritage by UNESCO of its outdoors rock carvings Paleolithic in the Côa River valley, one of the largest archaeological sites of rock art in Europe.

Mostly an agricultural region, is also known as the “Capital of Amendoeira,” due to the high density of these trees in the county, partly derived from special microclimate of a Mediterranean that is felt here, allowing landscapes without equal when the almond blossom fields dress of white and pink, usually in the second week of February continuing until the first day of March.

This shapes the agricultural world landscape of vineyards, olive groves and almond said, allowing unique views of great beauty, amid hills and valleys, where the rivers abound.

Throughout the county there are Rural Villages, schist, where tradition and custom still prevails.
