Mainland Highlights & Madeira Island

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL & CITY TOUR
Arrival to Lisbon airport. Meet and Greet with local English speaking guide. Panoramic visit of the downtown areas: Marquês de Pombal, Avenida da Liberdade and the Rossio Square and visit to the old town of Alfama the oldest district of Lisbon. After, a short walk of the Alfama quarter will be done and we proceed to Belém, for a short panoramic visit. Private Transfer to Hotel in Lisbon. Overnight.

DAY 2 – LISBON / SINTRA / CASCAIS / LISBOA
Breakfast at the Hotel. Departure to Sintra, a small charming village. Starting in the Historic Town Centre, visit to the Pena Palace. Departure towards Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. Driving by the coastal area of Guincho, arrival to Cascais. If timing allows it, some free time will be given in Cascais Bay. Drive towards Lisbon via Estoril taking the boulevard road along the beautiful coast. Return to the hotel in Lisbon.  Overnight.

DAY 3 – FÁTIMA / BATALHA / COIMBRA / PORTO
Breakfast at the Hotel. Departure to Fatima, a world known centre of Christian faith. Visit to the Sanctuary and the New Chapel. Departure to Batalha to visit its’ 15th century Monastery declared world heritage by UNESCO and a masterpiece of the initial Manueline art. Proceed to Coimbra with a visit to the Cathedral and Coimbra’s University. Continuation to Porto. Arrival at the Hotel. Check-in procedures. Overnight. 

DAY 4 – PORTO
After breakfast, visit  of Porto, with  the magnificent gothic church of S. Francisco and  the  Stock  Exchange Palace. Then enjoy a Six Bridges Cruise in Douro and discover them all from the oldest to the newest. After the cruise, free time for lunch in a typical restaurant in Porto. Afternoon at leisure. Return to the Hotel. Overnight.

DAY 5 – PORTO / NAZARÉ / ÓBIDOS / LISBOA / FUNCHAL
Breakfast at the Hotel.. Departure to Nazaré, a picturesque fisherman’s’ town where after visiting Sitio, a marvellous view point over the Atlantic Ocean, you can enjoy some free time at the beach area.  Continue to Óbidos, a town that has not lost its medieval nature and arrival in Lisbon, direct at the Airport. Departure to Funchal at 19h55. Transfer to the Hotel. Overnight.

DAY 6  – FUNCHAL
Breakfast to the Hotel. Deaprture to a city tour in Funchal. In the centre of Funchal we will take you to a visit of the city’s cathedral Sé, the beauty of its architecture derives for a blending of Hispano-Arabic and gothic-Romanesque lines. This half-day trip will not be completed without a visit to the city market – flowers, fruits and vegetables stands are placed around a central patio and, at the bottom of the stairs, you will find the fish marked. At the embroidery factory you will be able to see the beautiful designs created and transferred to the cloth and then the finishing process. At last, we will visit a wine cellar in which guests will have the opportunity to taste the various types of Madeira Wine. After the Half Day tour, enjoy the Madeira Carnival Festivities. Return t the Hotel. Overnight.

DAY 7 – FUNCHAL
Breakfast at the Hotel. Optional Full Day Tour to Porto Moniz. Visit to fishing the village of Câmara de Lobos. Then we continue until the viewpoint of Cabo Girão (1,902ft, 580m), the second highest sea cliff in the world. Continuing along the south coast, the route leads us to Ribeira Brava. From here on the way to Porto Moniz - a small village on the north coast, famous for its volcanic rock pools, we will discover a road built on the rocks near the sea where we can admire the astonishing waterfalls. Here we stop for lunch, and to allow you to explore some of the surrounding area. After lunch, we continue on the way up to Paul da Serra (1500m, 4,920ft), sometimes referred to as the roof of Madeira. Return to the Hotel. Overnight.

DAY 8 – SANTANA
Breakfast to the Hotel. Optional Full Day Tour to Santana. Departure from Funchal to Camacha. Arriving in Poiso for a detour to “Pico do Areeiro”. Back towards Posio, heading through the Laurissilva towards Ribeiro Frio. The next stop is Faial and lunch time. Back to the main road and following it towards Santana. Then head towards to Porto da Cruz and up to Portela for the valley of Penha d’Águia. Continue to the town of Machico. Return to Funchal. Overnight.

DAY 9 – MONTE
Breakfast to the Hotel. Optional Half Day Tour to Monte. Monte has been a favorite destination for visitors to Madeira since the late 19th century. The cable car takes you on a picturesque trip up to Monte where the first image that you see is the twin-towered façade of the Church (18th Century), a landmark throughout the city. In Monte a visit will be paid to Monte Palace Tropical Gardens.These gardens are amongst the finest on the island and its history dates back to the XVIII century. You’ll also have the opportunity to contemplate some marvelous panels with tiles that date back from the XVI to XX cc. The toboggan ride back – basket sledge ride into Funchal ends in Livramento (not included). The ride down the hill in the wicker sledges is an exciting one, providing you with a taste of the Madeira of the past decades, when this was the established form of transport. Return to Funchal to enjoy the Carnival Fun Parade. Overnight.

DAY 10 – DEPARTURE
